The Afronaut Collection
While developing a timeless eyewear direction for REFRAMD, I set out to create a collection that could be revisited and appreciated over time. During the early exploration, Afrofuturism and the concept of the Afronaut emerged as a central inspiration. The collection reflects this influence by combining expressive forms with a forward-looking aesthetic that celebrates individuality, resilience, and imagination.
Designed for those who value individuality and expression, each piece in the collection reflects a spirit of exploration and creativity. The project draws inspiration from Afrofuturism and the legacy of the African diaspora, connecting themes of resilience, movement, and imagination. The Afronaut concept represents curiosity and the drive to explore new possibilities, both culturally and aesthetically.
REFRAMD eyewear is developed with multiple nose bridge options and frame widths to accommodate diverse facial geometries. The Afronaut Collection consists of five designs, each available in nine fit variations and two colourways: black with orange or brown lenses, and blue with grey lenses.
The Afronaut Collection explores eyewear through the lens of computational design. Produced with advanced materials and defined by minimal surface geometry, each frame blends sculptural silhouettes with refined contours. The result is a bold yet precise aesthetic that reimagines the relationship between form, fit, and identity.
